Pros: Teachers can assign supplemental learning materials based on individual quiz performance; lots of quiz control options for teachers.

Cons: Access to the excellent reporting features requires a paid account; takes time to learn how to use the tool to its full potential; grade level selection doesn't ensure age-appropriate questions.

Bottom Line: From content delivery to assessment, this well-designed platform supports the whole learning process once you uncover all of its features.

At first glance, you may consider Quizalize for summative assessments or study time, but this multitasking tool can support a wide range of classroom activities. Use it as a pre-assessment tool before a unit to see which students need enrichment and which need intervention. Quizalize lets you assign more than questions to students. You can assign websites, PDFs, and YouTube videos, either as stand-alone tasks or as follow-up to a quiz. You can even differentiate which students get additional assignments based on their quiz performance.

Like all quiz platforms, Quizalize can be used for formative assessment: Check for understanding and determine how to proceed with instruction in the middle of lessons and units. Beyond quizzes, use it to create surveys to get student opinions or as a self-reflection tool. Teachers can even use Quizalize to create and share digital content collections around specific lessons or units.

Quizalize is designed to save teachers time. You can import existing quizzes from Quizlet (text only) or Google Forms (including images) or grab one from the large library of content created by other educators.

The AI feature "Smart Quiz," powered by ChatGPT, will generate questions for you based on topic, grade level, learning standard, etc. Then you can edit the quiz by adding your own images, videos, or audio. Customize quizzes for your students by adjusting question time limits and question types and by turning on accessibility features. If you assign a learning standard to a question, you can use the results report to quickly assess mastery.

Quizalize is a classroom quiz game and study tool similar to Kahoot!, Quizlet, Blooket, and Quizizz. Mix and match between nine question types including multiple choice, word scramble, grouping, checkbox, and typed answer. If you choose, you can attach a game to a quiz. Group games are high-energy competitions that reward speed. Individual games give students an arcade-style experience, where a correct answer earns them seconds or tokens.

Students access quizzes by connecting with a code, Quizalize account, email, or their school Microsoft or Google account. The code connects to a class set, not a single quiz, so students can choose from multiple live quizzes on the same screen.

Depending on how the quiz is set up, students can receive hints and explanations as they work through the questions. After the quiz, students see their score along with a list of all questions, their answers, and correct answers. Students are prompted to retake the quiz if they missed any questions.

Teachers can also preset supplemental materials to appear based on the students' results. For example, students who miss more than 50% of questions can be prompted to watch a review video, while students with 80% mastery are given a quiz on a new topic. With a paid account, teachers can see historical data and long-term progress tracking. With the free account, teachers can only access results from the most recently assigned quiz.

With lots of competition in the quiz game genre, each platform has to find unique ways to set itself apart from the pack. Quizalize has several excellent features that teachers should consider when choosing their quiz platform. It's cool that you can differentiate by assigning different materials to students based on their mastery level. Being able to add PDFs, videos, and links helps transition the Quizalize experience from basic assessment to a learning journey.

The AI quiz generator works pretty well, especially if you are willing to tweak the questions by adding multimedia and mixing up the response types. The feature enabling you to import from Google Forms also works well, so if you already have a lot of straightforward assessments in your Google Classroom, you can jazz them up with Quizalize with minimal effort. The data analysis is really useful, easy to read, and easy to export or sync to your gradebook. It's nice that all of the various state learning standards and many international standards are built in to the program, not just Common Core. You need a paid account to really utilize the well-designed reporting features.

The add-on games may be a distraction and do not always have clear instructions, but students will probably enjoy the mini breaks they provide as they progress through the assessment. The group games emphasize speed, which may not fit all learning environments. However, the game elements are completely optional; even if a teacher turns on gameplay, students can completely ignore the gameplay and it doesn't affect their quiz score. Unlike some other quiz platforms, students cannot create their own quizzes.

Quizalize review

Overall, it is a powerful alternative to Kahoot, but much of its reporting and analysis features are locked behind a paid account. According to reviewers, grade level selection doesn't ensure age-appropriate questions.
